Exodus 20:12; Proverbs 1:8-9
The family unit must be strong for societies to last and thrive. The family’s strength is dependent upon the way we treat one another. By God’s design, parents make decisions and children submit to their authority as we move through life. Although each child one day becomes an adult and makes his/her own decisions, honoring your father and mother is a command for life. We honor them in the way we talk, the way we listen, and the way we care for them.
Examine and reflect on your relationship with your parents. How are you honoring them today? If you are a child in their home, are you obeying them? Take time to intentionally thank your parents this week and to express your love for them. If your parents are gone or you don’t have contact with them, reach out to someone who has influenced you or loved you. Express your gratitude.
