1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:14-16

Another image of the church is that of a body. These two verses sum up Paul’s purpose of the Church. The unity of the Church is a unity amid diversity. The human body illustrates this truth. The body is made up of many parts. Every part performs a specific function to keep the body alive and well. So it is with the Church. The Church is composed of many individuals with varying temperaments, personalities, and gifts. But the many are referred to as “one body in Christ” (Romans 12:4-5). The varied gifts do not diminish our unity—they strengthen it.

Look up Ephesians 4:14-16. The various parts of the human body help each other in the growth process. Believers help one another to fulfill the will of God.
