Philippians 3:20-21

Keep in mind Paul wrote these words from a prison setting in Rome to Philippi, a Roman colony. Paul distinguished between his earthly citizenship and his heavenly one.

The significance of a Roman colony centered on its dependence upon the Roman emperor. If danger threatened, Philippi could summon the very might of Rome to come to her aid.

In the heavenly realm, believers are dependent upon God. In times of trouble, we can summon the presence and power of the very God who created us.
