Ecclesiastes 5:4-7

Have you ever made a promise like this when talking to God: “If you will help me __________, then I promise to ___________”? If you will help me get out of this speeding ticket, I promise to tithe double next week! How many of these promises do you keep? Sometimes, they are silly like my example. Other times, they come from a more serious, difficult, or heavy place in our life. The Preacher charges us to be mindful of the promises we make to God. Whether we make these promises deceitfully, foolishly, or with integrity, God takes them all seriously. What matters more to God—our promises or our actions? Take a moment and read what Jesus taught through “The Parable of the Two Sons” (Matthew 21:28-31).
