Friday
Mark 10:17-31

This passage of Scripture describes the hold greed can have on someone’s life. The rich young ruler has lived a seemingly moral life, abiding by the commandments, and earnestly seeks the teaching of Jesus. It even says Jesus felt love for this man who begged to know the way to eternal life. This man was a good man who did the right things. He did not oppress the poor as so many others called out in this week’s passages did. However, when Jesus told him to sell everything and follow him, he could not do it.

What will it cost you to follow Jesus? If he has not already, God will most likely call upon you to make sacrifices for the Kingdom. How do we do this? I notice the rich young ruler was alone. He had no friends or family with him encouraging him as the disciples had each other for support. We are called to run our Christian race together. Hebrews 12:1-3 states:

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

As we walk together, let us spur each other on toward love and good deeds, generosity, kindness, and faith.
