Devotions written by Dr. Brad Williamson

Monday
Ecclesiastes 11:1-2

When I was a teenager, my favorite Christian recording artists were The Imperials. (Yes, I listened to secular music, too.) One of my favorite songs by The Imperials was “Bread Upon the Water.” Here are the words to the first verse and chorus (listen here):

“Well there are people never receivin’ anything from God at all. And they are shaken from their believin’, when they don’t see results, they quickly fall.”

“But don’t you waiver; just keep on livin’ in the way God wants you to. Don’t get discouraged, keep on givin’, soon it will come back to you!”

Chorus: “Keep on casting your bread upon the water soon it’s going to come back home on every wave!”

Solomon needed encouragement and we do too. The words of the song give us some perspective and guidance, especially when things aren’t going as we hoped. As you journey out today, make it a point to encourage someone!
