“I Am”
One of the foundations of our faith is that Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. Some people still hold tight to the notion Jesus never claimed to be God. However, in this passage of John, we find Jesus referring to himself by using the name of God revealed to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). He was claiming to be the eternal God whose name is “I Am.” This claim did not go over well with his opponents; however, the fact remains he did refer to himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel—and his miracles and resurrection back up his claims.
