Acts 17:5-9
Success was followed by sharp criticism. Certain Jews became jealous due to the large number of people who responded to Paul’s teaching.
The opposition was so fierce, Paul and his companions were forced to flee from Thessalonica. His stay was brief—three weeks. He left these new converts with little outside support. So his purpose in writing these two letters was to encourage them in their newfound faith, to give instruction concerning godly living, to urge them not to neglect daily work, and to give assurance concerning the future of believers who die before Christ’s return.
