INVEST: THE THINGS THAT MATTER
Devotions written by Dr. Stephen G. Hatfield
During their travels on the second missionary journey, Paul and his companions saw great potential in the Greek city of Thessalonica. Its population hovered around 200,000—mostly Gentile, but with enough Jews to warrant a synagogue.
Thessalonica was a bustling seaport city, located on the east-west highway known as the Egnatian Way.
Paul’s church planting strategy was simple: If a destination had a synagogue, he attended the gatherings and reasoned with them from the Scriptures. In Thessalonica, Paul did this for three successive Sabbaths. The response was amazing as many Gentiles and “leading women” believed in Christ.
