Titus 2:4-5
Chapter 2 outlines the structure of the new church’s leadership. First, Paul insists Titus teach sound doctrine. Second, Paul gives specific instructions for older men and women, young men and women, as well as slaves. Paul says older men are to be worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and endurance. He encourages older women to be reverent, not those who slander others, and not heavy drinkers, but those who teach what is good. He goes on to say older women are to train younger women. Paul tells Titus to set an example for young men, encouraging them to be self-controlled and teaching them with authority. Paul instructs slaves to come under their master’s authority, being respectful and trustworthy.
I love this passage’s description of the church! It reminds me a LOT of our church. Each generation is valuable, given a job, and can learn from each other. In which generation do you find yourself? In light of this passage, are you being obedient? Are you fulfilling your role in the Body of Christ at First Baptist Church Lewisville?
