Week 2 – 2 Timothy: “EMPOWERED”

2 Timothy 3:1-9

The phrase “the last days” was originally an Old Testament expression of prophecy early Christian writers, like Paul, reflected upon and repeated in their teaching and writings. The writer of Hebrews used this phrase in reference to Jesus: “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Hebrews 1:1-2).

We are living in “the last days,” awaiting Jesus’ return. The words Paul wrote 2000 years ago seem eerily familiar to us in 2019. These words are not a pleasant description. It is a picture of the broken world in which we live. These same words described Paul’s world (although perhaps not to the same degree of intensity as they do today).

We don’t know when Christ will return, but he is coming back. He promised he would! We should make the most of each day and each opportunity as if he were coming back today. What will you do with your day?
