John 11:47-57

The Conspiracy to Kill Jesus

When the Sanhedrin met that day to determine what they should do with Jesus, they were not seeking the truth—they were seeking their own misguided self-interests. As highly educated scholars of God’s law, many of them would have committed most of God’s prophecies (if not all) regarding the Messiah to memory. However, they were so consumed with pride no one attending this diabolical meeting, not even Caiaphas himself, noticed when he uttered the words prophesied in Isaiah 53:8 (NIV), “For the transgression of my people he was punished.” For in spite of all of their knowledge, none could see the truth.

Knowledge can be filled with contradictions—it can enlighten and obscure—it can be true and false—it can humiliate and glorify—it can ignite and extinguish. Truth, however, shares no duplicitous notions—its blade is razor-sharp and frees all those seeking redemption from the constraints human knowledge can impose. Jesus guaranteed all who seek him will “know the truth and truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

As you navigate your way through this life through vocation, education, relationships, politics, religion, economics, etc.— choosing to seek Truth will make all the difference.
