Wednesday
Ecclesiastes 5:8-9

Lord Acton, a British historian, has been quoted as saying, “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Power blinds us, persuades us, and then traps us. It blinds us to the needs of others. It persuades us to let go of any sense of morals or beliefs as we build our influence. Finally, it traps us when we defend it at all costs, no matter the consequence, to hold on to what we have.

Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Corruption happens anywhere power can be acquired, and it is usually a subordinate on the receiving end of unfairness, oppression, and injustice. The Preacher is not shocked at this and neither should we be. We must not be indifferent to the unfairness, oppression, and injustice around us. Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Take a moment and read the following: Proverbs 3:27-28, Proverbs 14:31, Proverbs 22:22-23, Proverbs 28:27, Proverbs 31:8-9.
