Friday
Psalm 118:19-24, Ephesians 2:13-22
In biblical times, the cornerstone was the first and most important stone laid in new construction. It was critical to properly place the cornerstone as it ensured a straight and level foundation. It needed to be strong and worthy of bearing the weight of the building.

We, as God’s people, have always been prone to wander. Scripture reveals this truth time and time again. In our lives, we often try to replace Jesus as the cornerstone with things that are not meant to bear that weight. In the same way, it would be easy to replace Jesus as the cornerstone of the church with things such as tradition, cultural relevancy, events, and other things as a means to draw people in. However, those things were never designed to support the weight of the church and will eventually crumble under stress over time. We must always remember Jesus is the cornerstone of the church AND our lives. It is by him and through him our direction is set to be straight and true. On Jesus, the church will never fail or be toppled.
