Jude 12-13
Jude uses imagery to give another word of warning to the church. He warns of these men who were called “spots in your love feasts.” Love feasts were common meals shared by early Christians (similar to a potluck dinner). These men were self-serving and ate greedily while others went hungry. He paints even more metaphoric pictures so people will understand the destruction that lurks among them:
- Self-centered shepherds
- Waterless clouds
- Dead autumn trees
- Wild waves of the sea
- Wandering stars
Unless these men repent, they would end up in the “blackness of darkness forever”—an eternity of separation from God. Once again, Jude pleads with the church to recognize what is going on among them and “contend for the faith.”
