Thursday – 1 Samuel 17:31-58
Today’s passage is long, but it’s fast-paced and exciting. Most of us are familiar with the account of David meeting Goliath in battle. As you read this account, remember you are reading history—this event actually happened.
Have you ever heard a Bible lesson or a sermon or a devotional on this passage that takes certain elements of the story and applies them in the following way? “We all face giants in our lives and we must do what David did. So if you are facing the giant of addiction, then throw God’s stone of victory and slay that giant.” Do you see what this does to the passage? Of course, we can and should draw spiritual lessons from God’s Word, but don’t overlook the literal meaning in order to make your point.
