Tuesday
Matthew 25:31-33; Ephesians 2:8-9; James 2:26

In biblical times, sheep were considered to be more valuable than goats as they were much more obedient to their shepherds. Jesus’ parable in Matthew 25:31-33 describes separating people, as one would separate obedient sheep from the disobedient goats. In the story, men and women are separated based on their generosity. Those who are generous are honored and those who are not are cast out.

As believers, we know grace through faith saves us and not our actions. We are also told in James 2:26 that without deeds—without obedience—our faith is dead. The expression of our love and obedience to Jesus is evidenced by our generosity, proving we are no longer dead but alive in Christ. When we refuse to serve others and meet needs, we are refusing to obey the commands of Christ.

Consider your actions yesterday. Do you show by your actions that you are a follower of the Good Shepherd? What will you do today to intentionally seek to be generous?
