Mark 2:18-22
The Pharisees still couldn’t fit Jesus and his disciples into their religious box. In their minds, outward signs of spirituality—hanging out with the right people, fasting, and the like—were paramount. Jesus responded not by denigrating John the Baptist or the disciples’ fasting, but by revealing his identity as the Bridegroom. As Jesus’ guests, the disciples were to enjoy the feast while he was with them.
In what ways are you clinging to religious routine—checking the box on spirituality—rather than enjoying the feast of who Jesus really is? Ask the Spirit of God to convict you. Agree with him about your sin. Then, pull up a chair and enjoy the feast.
