Week 6 – 2 Peter: “BEWARE!”

Devotions written by Missy Iley

Monday
2 Peter 2:1-9

In addition to learning to lead others to Christ, Christians must learn to discern the difference between truth and lies. Paul even commends the Christians in Berea for going to great lengths to review Scripture and ensure what he was teaching was the truth (Acts 17:11).

It is important to remember Satan is the father of lies, and his deft prophets know exactly how to spin lies so articulately that unwitting Christians can fall for them hook, line, and sinker. It is our job to not be “unwitting.” We must make it our business to actively seek and discern the truth. How do we do this? By relying on the big three: Bible study, prayer, and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Peter’s warning echoes Paul’s cautionary words in 2 Timothy 4:3-4: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.”
