FridayPsalm 46:10
Do you ever feel like the noise around you is deafening? People and things compete for your attention. We can gain constant access to each other via phone and social media. At times, it can be overwhelming. In Contemplative Prayer, we come to God to sit in silence in his presence. In contrast to our fast-paced world of noise and constant motion, this discipline leads us into greater intimacy with God as we wait in the silence.

Foster also describes the Communion of Solitude in which we “recharge our batteries” in order to reenter the busyness of life. We also gain perspective that enables us to “let go of our inner compulsions to acquire more wealth than we need, look more youthful than we are, attain more status than is wise. In the stillness, our false, busy selves are unmasked and seen for the imposters they truly are.”

Have you taken time to sit in prolonged silence with God? If not, try it. As you commune with him in this solitude, you will come away with a greater awareness of who God is, who you are in light of this, and what is most important.
