Thursday – Philippians 2:14-16
We have been discussing unity within the body as a foundation of community. Today we see another reason God desires unity within the body—the world is watching. There is a gem hidden among the other phrases in today’s passage—don’t miss it! Buried within 2:16, we find God’s blueprint for maintaining unity: “as you hold firmly to the word of life.” I don’t know any other way to say it but to say God’s Word puts the “unity” in “community.” (I know, that was pretty bad, but it’s true!) When the lost world looks at the Bride of Christ, it is important that they see us unified in God’s perfect Word. They are searching for absolutes, whether they are aware of it or not. We must hold strong to the “black and white” truths of his Word in order to “shine among them like stars in the sky.”
