1 John 5:5-6

God gives us a complete, clear, and undistorted view of his total love and commitment to us through Christ’s incarnation, sacrifice, and resurrection.

We live in a broken world—but there are traces of God’s original design, e.g. beautiful people and a beautiful world. We try different ways to get out of this broken world on our own. Some attempts are noble, others not so much. But none of our efforts seem to last.

God loves us so completely that he sent Jesus down into our world. He allowed his one and only, perfect son, Jesus, to be killed on the cross, taking on our sin, and three days later, rise from the grave. He declared that if anyone would turn from their way, surrender to him, and make Jesus the King of their life, they would be forgiven and made new.

John is reaffirming what Christ said to Thomas and the disciples: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me” (John 14:6).

Thank God today for his unconditional love through Jesus the Christ.
