Friday – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
As we come in for a landing this week, we come to one of the greatest passages in the Scriptures about accountability in community. There is no argument that Solomon was a wise man, and his universal truth here is that when in the right company, we are stronger. There is a constant truth that, as followers of Christ, we are never alone. God is always present. At the same time, there is an added sense of strength within a community of believers. The practical application for this passage is that two are better than one. There is a greater return on their work. They can pick up each other when they fall (both figuratively and literally). There is safety in numbers when defending one another. This strength and security do not come from the individuals within the community. It comes from the Spirit of God that unifies them together, allowing them to challenge each other, love each other, and encourage each other.
