1 Corinthians 16:1-4

Persecution and famine left the Jerusalem church impoverished. Paul asked all the churches in the surrounding areas to give generously to the “mother” church in Jerusalem. Perhaps he felt these new church plants owed something to the original believers whose commissioning of Paul made their faith possible.
