Thursday
Mark 10:28

Slowly read this verse five times. Evaluate your life, and ask God what, if anything, needs to be surrendered to him.

Consider this quote from Jim Elliot, a martyr who died trying to share the love of God to the Woadani Indians:

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” –Elliot’s Journals from Wheaton College, Billy Graham Center

Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Pete Fleming, Ed McCully, and Roger Youderian were all martyred on their mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They gave up everything. They were fueled with a knowledge of eternity that should ignite any Christian to live in total surrender. This is summed up in a quote from the movie, End of the Spear:

Steve Saint (son of Nate Saint): “If the Waodani attack, will you defend yourself? Will you use guns?”

Nate Saint: “Son, we can’t shoot the Waodani. They’re not ready for heaven…we are.”
