Possessions sometimes hinder our relationship to God. “Things” themselves are not the issue. Possessions become problematic when they come between us and our relationship to God. God does not want humanity to lean on perishable things for fulfillment; rather, he desires his people to lean upon him.

Often, this “rich man” is given a bad rap. Truly he placed more importance on his possessions than his relationship with God. But he represents a picture of many Christians within this world. We, too, often allow our possessions to come between us and God. But, thanks be to God, he gives us victory though our Lord Jesus Christ. Take a minute to evaluate yourself. Ask if your possessions are hindering your relationship with God in any way.
