A GODLY WOMAN
Devotions on Proverbs 31:10-31

Exodus 20:12; Ephesians 6:2
God’s design is for us to honor our parents. When this passage is quoted in Ephesians, we are reminded there is a promise attached when we are obedient to its direction. Proverbs 6:20-23 speaks to this promise: “My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart; always tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life” (ESV).
We honor our parents when we follow their wisdom and instruction. In return, guidance, protection, teaching, and discipline are poured into us as key ingredients for our lives. It’s not always easy to honor our parents, and in some circumstances, it may not even be deserved. Even in those moments, we honor our parents when we pray for, forgive, serve, cherish, and love them.
