Nehemiah 8:9-12

Ezra and Nehemiah urged the people to respond correctly to God’s Word. Apparently most were frightened and convicted. Hearing God’s Word reminded them of their disobedience and selfishness.

The people were told to celebrate. “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (8:10).

God desired his people to celebrate, to remember, and to provide for those less fortunate.
