Philippians 1:1-8
The word “joy” or one of its forms appears 16 times in these four chapters.
Some observations concerning the letter itself include the following:
No Old Testament quotations are found in the letter.
Philippians is a genuine letter as compared to Romans, which is more like a manifesto than a letter.
Doctrinal truth is not Paul’s main emphasis. His words convey practical advice, not dogma.
Philippians is Christ-centered. “Christ” appears 40 times (every 2-3 verses).
