Wednesday
John 8:12; John 12:27-37

“I am the light of the world.”

Light has been used to symbolize a variety of things throughout time. The people who were hearing Jesus talk in today’s passages would most likely be familiar with light as the symbol of the pillar of fire given to Israel during the exodus. However, Jesus is now saying he is indeed the light given to his people to illuminate the way to eternal life. Those who follow Jesus will not be ignorant of spiritual matters but will have the power to understand the spiritual truth that brings eternal life. Jesus is our only sure hope, sent to awaken us from the darkness of our sin.
