Saturday
Mark 4:1-20

Following the mounting conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees, Jesus tells a series of parables and de-escalates the tension. Those who were spiritually-minded would understand his teaching. Those who weren’t would be “ever seeing but never perceiving” and “ever hearing but never understanding.”

Using these earthly stories with heavenly meanings, Jesus illustrates the kingdom of God. As Jesus explains the Parable of the Sower, he refers to the secret of the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God can only be revealed to those who have faith. In the disciples’ hearing, the kingdom was being revealed. And as those who would someday sow the seed of the kingdom, the disciples needed to know their only job was to sow the seed.

What about you? Do you receive the Word like seed on good soil? Does God’s Word produce a prolific crop in and through your life? Are we being faithful to sow the seed of God’s Word at home, at school, at work?
