Nehemiah 9:9-15
The Levites’ prayer (beginning in 9:6 and continuing through the end of the chapter) chronicles Israel’s deliverance by God’s hand from the bondage of the Egyptians. Old Testament prayers often centered on re-telling the goodness of God in history. It was a way of remembering and passing on what God had done. Moses, when he was Israel’s leader, had instructed the Israelites: “Do not forget the Lord who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery” (Deuteronomy 6:12b).
As you meditate and pray today, think about this question: What has Christ done for you? It would be a worthy exercise to make a list of the ways you have seen Jesus work in your life. Keep the list handy, perhaps in your Bible, and review it from time to time adding new entries as you see God at work. As you pray, thank the Lord for working in your life in these specific ways.
