Philippians 2:21-22
All the other leaders around seem concerned with their needs and their popularity, but Paul is confident Timothy will put the needs of the church over his own ambitions. In the first century, many sons would work as interns and apprentices for their fathers and eventually take over the family business. They would learn by watching and by doing with the teacher. This connection has happened between Paul and Timothy. Paul is confident in Timothy’s abilities because they have an intimate bond. Paul trusts the younger man to fully act as he would himself.
