Devotions written by Dr. Brad Williamson

Monday
Luke 1:5-25

It’s the week of Christmas. We have been studying the prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah and how he would wonderfully provide and care for us, ultimately bringing us into the presence of our Holy God. We have been looking at the Messiah’s titles.

Today’s Scripture reading reminds us once again how much God did in preparation to send his one and only Son into our world, including the birth of a forerunner. God provided for Elizabeth and Zacharias to have a son who would be a prophet to introduce the world to Jesus.

Prior to becoming pregnant, Elizabeth was childless. It was an angel who announced to Zacharias that his wife (who was past child-bearing age) would have a child and they would call the baby, John.
