Jude 5-7, 11

Jude continues to warn the church about the apostasy (the blatant refusing to continue to follow, obey, or recognize their religious faith) that was finding its way into the church. Jude lays out the following historical examples and the sin that caused ruin in each instance:

• The nation of Israel (unbelief)
• Fallen angels (rebellion)
• Sodom and Gomorrah (sexual immorality)
• Cain (religious perversion)
• Balaam (financial greed)
• Korah (rejection of divine authority)

Jude issues a clear warning to the church to learn from past mistakes and to understand the ramifications of allowing these individuals to corrupt true believers. It is vital that we, who are called, loved by God, and kept by Jesus Christ (as Jude states in his opening greeting), apply Jude’s warning to our own lives and our own churches today.
