Mark 10:23-26
In this passage, Jesus further escalates the battle between possessions and our walk with God. This passage makes it easy to imply a person with many possessions will find it impossible to get into heaven. This is not the case. It is not the possessions of a person that determines our eternal destination, but a person’s identity and relationship (or lack thereof) with Jesus.
God desires all his children to place him as the number one priority in life. When this occurs, a person’s identity becomes engulfed in the image of God: Everything they do is surrounded by recognition of God’s omnipresence. A person becomes identified by and through the love of Christ. With Christ in charge, possessions become irrelevant because we recognize everything we have comes God.
To whom do you give credit for the things you possess?
