Jeremiah 18:1-6; Isaiah 64:8
God sent Jeremiah on a field trip. He went to the potter’s house and watched the artisan at work. The potter worked the clay on his wheel and when there was a blemish or an issue with the pot, he reformed it and made it new. God said he could do the same with Israel.
We are connected to God like clay is to a potter. Our very existence is a result of God’s plans and desire. This image reminds us of the way he created Adam from the dust on the ground. He formed us for specific purposes and, even in our brokenness, he will make us new. We are the safest when we are surrendered to him and in his hands.
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.
