Isaiah 61:1-3

The Christmas story is a rescue story. It is a rescue mission planned by a loving father to redeem the world through his Son. In today’s passage, we see this mission Jesus came to fulfill. Jesus even quotes today’s passage in Luke 4:16-21 to announce his coming as the Messiah. He came to rescue the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He came to rescue the sick (Mark 2:17). He came to give abundant (John 10:10) and everlasting life (John 3:16). He came as a ransom to secure our freedom (1 Timothy 2:5-6). In all these things, during this season, celebrate his coming.
