Ecclesiastes 12:8

Everything is a vapor, a mist, vanity. The book of Ecclesiastes is a difficult read because everything is wrapped up in a figurative bow of vanity. It seems to leave the reader with an eternal longing for happiness that cannot be found in the world.

The reality is happiness is fleeting and the only thing that lasts forever is the joy of salvation in Jesus Christ. No amount of success, wealth, possession, or satisfaction lasts in this world. It all rots, is lost, broken, or devalued at some point in time. Solomon reminds us joy is found in one thing—a relationship with God.
