1 John 2:12-14

When John mentions children, fathers, and young men, he is essentially saying his words apply to the church as a whole. He is so passionate in getting his point across we find him repeating the same sentiments in consecutive verses (a common practice in the Scriptures to show importance and urgency). His purpose in today’s passage is two-fold:

1. He praises the spiritual health of the church and encourages them to build upon their assurance in eternal life.

2. He warns the church about those individuals who are attempting to deceive them. He urges them to stand firm in their battle against sin.

Accept John’s encouragement and heed his warning in your own heart today. Do not let the world deceive you and keep you from carrying out God’s mission of love to the people around you.
