Ecclesiastes 1:2

One of the interesting surprises in the Bible is that Proverbs and Ecclesiastes appear back to back in the ordering of the Old Testament books. Both are classified as Wisdom literature. Both claim to present the truth of God. But that’s where their similarities end.

Proverbs is a collection of mainly two- and four-line stanzas based upon the conviction God created an orderly and predictable system by which the world operates.

Ecclesiastes denies the world operates in any orderly fashion. It asserts man can predict nothing except his own death. Yes, God exists, but he is “up there,” far removed from us.
