Pastor Search

Stephen G Hatfield came with his family 28 years ago to serve as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lewisville. At the beginning of June 2021, he announced his retirement from full-time ministry. As a church, we are so grateful for the way Stephen and Marcie have loved our congregation. We have experienced loss together, rejoiced together, and served our community together. After 28 years, FBCL is truly family to the Hatfields.

In his announcement to the church, Dr. Stephen encouraged our congregation to pray for the future pastor and the transition process. Our nominating committee then spent weeks in prayer. They prayed for God’s wisdom and guidance as they selected church members for a Pastor Search Committee. On Sunday, August 1, nine committee members and two alternates were presented before the church. Our task is not an easy one, and we do not take it lightly. However, we are filled with great hope and excitement for the future of FBCL.

Over the next weeks and months, we will pray together for the wisdom of God and seek guidance where needed to fulfill our mission statement:

We will set aside any personal agendas and seek the will of God to discover the pastor that the First Baptist Church of Lewisville body of members needs (not wants) who will have a heart to serve Christ, his people, and his world.

August Prayer Guide

Hello Church Family!

The month of August marks one full year of working together as the Pastor Search Committee. During this time, we have had countless meetings which have resulted in the hiring of our search firm Slingshot, the preparation before the interview process, receiving the first batch of candidates on Palm Sunday, and interviewing, praying, and deliberating over each candidate.

On Sunday, July 17, we shared that we had released all of our original candidates. Though difficult to do, we were confident this was the direction we needed to move forward. Very quickly, we received the second batch of candidates from Slingshot with a total of five candidates, and as of this update and moving forward, with three of them. A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks! We are excited and encouraged, and we are hopeful.

What’s next? There will never be a perfect candidate, but we will work till God has made it clear we have found someone right. In the meantime, we still ask for your prayers and patience. We’re bringing back the Prayer Guide to invite you to join us in prayer. These prayers and verses written one year ago hold the same truth and promise they did then.
