Tuesday
Psalm 139:6; Genesis 18:14

“Wonder”… do we really have a true sense of wonder? Does our sense of wonder travel beyond anything we can humanly explain? A wonder is something truly miraculous. We casually throw out the term “miracle” to describe so many things that might not deserve such a label. When this occurs, I would argue we prove our low view of the miraculous and expose a limited sense of wonder.

When Isaiah proclaimed the word pele’, he painted a picture that could not be misinterpreted. You see, this term we translate as “wonderful” is a term used in the Scriptures to describe things that are unusual and beyond the capability of man. It is only ever used for God’s deeds and words, never for human accomplishments. It is the same term used when Abraham’s elderly wife, Sarah, laughed at the idea that she would have a child. The messenger responded, “Is anything too difficult (pele’) for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14). It is the same term used by David in Psalm 139:6 when he states, “Such knowledge is too wonderful (pele’) for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.”

So as you pray to your Wonderful Counselor today, remember this is the same Jesus who Isaiah said would be a wonder—not only describing what he does, but who he is. He is the wonder!
