Friday
1 John 5:3-4

Growing up, sports were my life. During my senior year of high school, I (BJ) was doing five extracurricular activities at once: baseball (my favorite), track, golf, one-act play, and UIL Academic Competitions. I was also a very competitive person and that final senior season of my life was full of disappointment. I longed to receive a gold medal. Something with the number 1 plastered on it was what I longed for. However, no matter what happened, second best seemed the best I could do. In this moment in life, I forgot what John tells us in 5:3-4. “This is the victory that has overcome the world.” Do not forget the victory that is found in Christ, because he is always first.

Take a moment to sing this song or just read the lyrics as you pray over the things you feel second best at. Allow God to speak victory over your life:

Victory in Jesus
I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood’s atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.

(chorus)
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.

He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing power revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, “Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,”
And somehow Jesus came and bro’t
To me the victory.

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I’ll sing up there
The song of victory.
