Hope For Those Grieving

“I am more positive about life!”  “Now I know I will be OK.”

These testimonies and many more came from our recent GriefShare participants. We have seen lives dramatically changed from week 1 to week 13. They begin session 1 with heads lowered and, in a few weeks, many have smiles on their faces. We hear things like: “I used to cry when I saw a picture of my loved one, but now, I can smile as I think of the precious times we shared.” They gain a brand new outlook on life by interacting with others with like losses in large and small groups and by watching the practical real-life videos.

Our “Loss of a Spouse” event last Saturday morning was very well attended with 14 participants and 8 leaders. The 9 ladies and 5 men entered into a loving environment, intently watched the video, and adjourned to small groups for discussion where they expressed their feelings. They left with practical tools to help them in their journey. Many registered for the upcoming GriefShare session. The large turnout indicated to us that their grief during this pandemic was so strong that even having to attend on campus did not deter them from coming.

They were glad to be with “people who get it.” Participants could talk about their loss without feeling awkward. They felt validated that what’s going on in their world is normal—that they are not going crazy! For some, there was a new realization of God’s will in their life. 18 registered—two from over 80 miles away and one in Arizona! Family members from different locations came together online in the group. The sessions proved to be a “lifeline” as 7 of the 18 participants lost their loved ones during the pandemic. They commented that they had received practical helps to move forward. It was an outstanding experience for the participants and leadership.

  1. Mondays, on campus, from 6 – 8 pm. Begins August 24.
