Sometimes the mess of family directly relates to the quality and quantity of communication. So much about relationships rises and falls on communication. In 4:29, we are given wonderful guidelines. First, are my words wholesome? Second, is what I’m saying helpful? Does it build up or tear down the other person? Third, do my words meet the others’ needs? Is it the right time to talk about this, or should I wait? Fourth, will what I say be beneficial to other family members who might overhear the conversation? To be sure, miscommunication, misunderstandings, and mistakes will happen. But as we take the time to have important, even difficult, conversations, our families will be stronger for it.
On a scale from one to ten, how would you rate your family’s communication? Is there something difficult that needs to be said in love? Take time to pray about that now.
