An Unmarried Mess

1 Corinthians 7:25-40
Some people reference Genesis 2:18: “It is not good that man should be alone,” and prescribe marriage for all people. If this is the case then it could be argued that Paul, who wasn’t married, and Jesus, who wasn’t married, were both out of God’s will – and considering the latter, that is impossible. In today’s passage, Paul makes the case that both marriage and singleness are “gifts.”

From Paul’s perspective, singleness offered three advantages to furthering the gospel of Christ: 1) unbridled purpose, 2) undivided affections, and 3) being unencumbered by relationships.

Remember, being single is a gift, not a curse or punishment. None of us need anything more than Christ to serve Christ.
