28 Days of Letters from Jesus

November 8 – Revelation 1:15-16

John’s vision of Jesus continues. His feet of “burnished bronze” and his “voice like the sound of many waters” are also used to describe God in Ezekiel 1:7 and Daniel 10:6. Out of his mouth was a “two-edged sword.” This symbol of God’s eternal Word also depicted God’s judgment and power (Isaiah 49:2).

John is not literally describing Jesus in these verses, so don’t try to put together an ancient photograph. The result is a distorted, unsightly thing. Instead, see what John sees. Every majestic, powerful description of God in the Old Testament is used to create a beautiful mosaic of the Lord of lords and the King of kings, Jesus. He is God in the flesh.
