Friday
1 Samuel 3:8-9

As parents, grandparents, teachers, and those who love kids, we need to know how to help kids know when God is pursuing them. In other words, we adults help kids discern the voice of God. Samuel needed Eli to help him know God was calling him. How can we help our kids know God’s voice? Several principles apply.

First, we must remember God in the Holy Spirit is the One who pursues the hearts of our kids. We don’t have to try to be our kids’ Holy Spirit. Some of the best work we do is in prayer asking God to work in the lives of our children and kids we love.

Second, we can know the tools First Baptist Lewisville offers parents and kids as they come to Christ. Typically, when kids begin asking questions, parents ask me how they can help their child. Many times, I give out a great book, When Can I? This book gives short chapters that explain salvation, baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. Parents are also welcome to set up a time when they can come with their child and talk to me about what it means to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Third, we can know what FBCL offers to disciple kids after they’ve made their profession of faith. A four-week New Christians Class is offered during the Bible Study hour in the fall and the spring. Sometimes kids who have lots of questions participate in the New Christians Class before they trust Christ to help them understand more about this commitment.

First Baptist Lewisville is a church that believes in sharing the good news with kids. Thank God for a church that seeks to pursue those whom God is pursuing. Pray for your own children, grandchildren, and children you know who need to come to Christ for salvation. Pray you will be an Eli in the life of a child.
