Nehemiah 2:11-20

As Nehemiah prepared to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem, he took time to assess the extent of the damage. In 2:12, he took only a few men with him. Imagine as Nehemiah and the men went from one broken-down gate to another, how the men must have been making their own assessments and wondering to themselves, “How are we ever going to do this? Do you know how much money this is going to take? Can you imagine how many man-hours we’re going to need?” They were probably saying under their breath, “There’s no way!” But they didn’t know what Nehemiah knew. They didn’t know that earlier, King Artaxerxes, under God’s guidance of course, had written Nehemiah a blank check (2:4-9). Nehemiah knew he had everything they were going to need to get the job done. The challenge now was to motivate the city to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

As FBC Lewisville’s actual building and renovation process begins, it will be tempting to become armchair architects and contractors. A better use of our time would be to focus on what we, as church members, can do by faithfully praying, having positive attitudes, obediently tithing to the budget, and generously giving to the building campaign.
